RECOMMENDED TOUR:
1st day: Arrival in Trieste and check-in at the hotel. In the afternoon, a tour of the Miramare Castle, the charming residence of the archduke Maximilian of Habsburg featuring the original nineteen-century furnishings, and a stroll in the surrounding botanic garden are recommended. Dinner at the restaurant. Overnight stay.
2nd day: Breakfast. Morning devoted to discovering the town of Trieste. A visit to the Sartorio Museum, whose collection includes important drawings by Giambattista Tiepolo and works by Canova, is advisable. In the afternoon, a group guided tour of the old town centre of Trieste, including Piazza Unità d'Italia, the heart of Trieste, facing directly onto the sea, Piazza della Borsa, with the massive building of the "Borsa vecchia", the old stock-exchange, the Borgo Teresiano which flourished especially under Empress Maria Theresa, with its elegant palaces, the Roman Theatre and the picturesque alleyways of Cittavecchia, the old city. At the end of the tour, stop in one of the traditional cafes of Trieste to taste a good coffee accompanied by a traditional cake. Overnight stay.
3rd day: Breakfast. End of services. In the morning a panoramic walk along the fascinating Sentiero Rilke, and a visit to the Duino Castle, the current residence of the princes of Thurn und Taxis, entrenched on a crag on a sheer drop to the sea are advisable.
