BORDERLESS TRIESTE
Discovering the Slovenian and Trieste Karst
3 days, 2 nights price on request
1st day: Arrival in Trieste. In the afternoon meeting with the guide for a tour of the town, including the Colle di San Giusto with its invaluable cathedral, Piazza Unità d'Italia, known as the "heart" of Trieste, the Cavana and Crosada old town centre and the Borgo Teresiano, with its majestic and multi-coloured palaces. During the tour, stop for coffee tasting in one of the historic cafes of the town. Dinner at a restaurant. Overnight stay.
2nd day: Breakfast. Off to the discovery of the beauties of the Slovenian Karst. Stop-over to admire the view from the Socerb Castle (S. Servolo), offering an extraordinary outlook over the gulf of Trieste and Koper. The trip continues in the direction of the small town of Hrastovlje, with its majestic 16th-century fortress, containing a Romanesque church with some wonderful medieval frescoes. The most famous is the Dance Macabre, depicting the weakness of a poor and a rich man confronted with death. Lunch at a restaurant. In the afternoon, trip to Piran, one of the most charming towns of Slovenian Istria, with a most picturesque Venetian architecture, including walls, towers and stone-flagged "calli". Visit to the town centre. Return to Trieste in the evening. Dinner and overnight stay.
3rd day: Breakfast. Trip to the Trieste Karst for a guided tour of the Grotta Gigante, the largest and most interesting tourist cave in the world. Later on, we propose visiting the laboratory of a local sculptor who carves the Karst stone with a very personal style, creating genuine works of art. Lunch at a farm restaurant. In the afternoon, visit to a farm in the Trieste Karst specialising in bee-keeping, producing honey, mead, propolis, royal jelly, cosmetics and beehive products. End of services.
